Carte blanche — Les Anciennes Écuries, Trélazé
Textile portraits, intimate and inner — 13 February–1 March 2026
From 13 February to 1 March 2026, Les Anciennes Écuries in Trélazé, one of the largest contemporary art spaces in the Angers region, was devoted entirely to the work of Katherine Roumanoff.
This 1,200 m² solo exhibition gathered over thirty years of creation. Several periods of the artist's work were presented: textile portraits, feminine figures, psychic bodies, Oppressed women, Pinned women, canvas-sculptures and installations.
All these works are connected by the same thread: the human figure caught in a dense instant, between memory, emotion and inner presence.
Katherine Roumanoff cuts directly into the material, with no preliminary sketch. Figures gradually emerge from fragments of velvet, brocade, cotton prints and repurposed upholstery fabric. Every textile carries a story, an era, a culture and a memory.
Through her portraits, the artist explores what runs through human beings: childhood, invisible wounds, assigned roles, held-back impulses, but also the capacity to transform, to repair and to connect.
Colours, patterns and rhythms compose inner landscapes that invite the gaze to slow down. Some works make an immediate impression; others reveal themselves gradually, unfolding several layers of reading.
The exhibition welcomed over 3,000 visitors.
