On the railings: a textile garden

At the Town Hall of the 16th, the encounter begins on the outer railings, with large portraits in plant-based finery accompanied by texts by the botanist Pascal Lacroix. Flowers, foliage, fibres and dyes tell of the links between the plant world and fabrics.

Here are the panels shown on the railings. They were created for the exhibition Portraits en parures végétales, presented in 2026 at the Lac de Maine, in Angers.

Note: the image of the town hall above is a simulation generated by artificial intelligence; the panels shown here are the actual exhibition visuals.

Katherine Roumanoff — Inner landscapes

An immersion in patterns and colours

For Katherine Roumanoff, the love of fabrics began in childhood. Her parents imported Indian clothing; she grew up among fabrics, colours and paisley patterns, dreamed in front of arabesques and trees of life, and played with papier-mâché boxes covered in countless motifs. Flowers, foliage and ornaments filled her imagination very early on.

Years later, as a designer, she created hundreds of textiles for early childhood. Then theatre costumes offered her a new encounter with material: the pleasure of cutting into velvets, brocades and upholstery fabrics. Her first textile portraits emerged from costume offcuts.

For nearly thirty years she has pursued this adventure with fabrics gathered from all over the world. Each fragment brings its own patterns, texture and story. Under her scissors, through juxtaposition and layering, female figures take shape. She composes them directly in the material, guided by colour and emotion.

The exhibition "Inner landscapes" evokes what makes us who we are: memories, emotions, heritage and desires. Behind each face, the fabrics draw an intimate world that everyone can explore through their own sensibility.

At the Town Hall of the 16th, the encounter begins on the outer railings, with large portraits in plant-based finery accompanied by texts by the botanist Pascal Lacroix. Inside the town hall, visitors can discover the original works.

Katherine Roumanoff will be present every day to welcome visitors, talk about the works and share her story and her way of creating.
